A Tale of Two Naans: Gluten-Free Sweet or Savory?

This version is perfect when you’re short on time but still want to enjoy a warm, homemade gluten-free naan. It uses Bob’s Red Mill gluten free flour, coconut oil, and a touch of sugar for a mildly sweet finish that my kids loved.

This millet flour naan combines nutrition with flavor. It’s made with fresh milled gluten free flours, including sorghum and brown rice, giving it a more structured bite. With a lower sugar content and a mix of coconut and avocado oil, it’s a great option for savory meals.

  • Equal mix of coconut oil and avocado oil, for frying
  • Extra millet flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together yogurt, butter, egg, and water.
  3. Stir wet mixture into dry until a soft dough forms.
  4. Divide into 8 portions and flatten into discs, using millet flour for dusting if needed.
  5. Fry in a mix of avocado and coconut oil for 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy!

This version isn’t as sweet, which made it a better match for our Greek Feast. It held up well to bold flavors like lamb, olives, and herbed yogurt sauces, and the whole grains added satisfying texture and depth.
