The Federal Government has come under scrutiny for collaborating with banks to flag people’s accounts for purchasing Bibles, labeling them as “extremist text”, alongside transactions from stores like Cabel’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or Bass Pro Shop. Moreover, terms such as MAGA or Trump have also been targeted, all under the guise of “preventing religious extremism.”

It’s important to note that the information was obtained illegally, without a warrant. The pressing question now is what the Government aims to do with the data they have gathered?

This information has been widely reported by The ChristianPost, Fox News, The Blaze, and even the Washington Times. Below, you’ll find a screenshot of the recent press release from the House Judiciary Committee, as well as a quoted snippet from the release.

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New documents obtained by the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government reveal that the federal government flagged terms like “MAGA” and “TRUMP” for financial institutions if Americans used those phrases when completing transactions. Individuals who shopped at stores like Cabela’s or Dick’s Sporting Goods, or purchased religious texts like a bible, may also have had their transactions flagged. This kind of pervasive financial surveillance, carried out in coordination with and at the request of federal law enforcement, into Americans’ private transactions is alarming and raises serious concerns about the FBI’s respect for fundamental civil liberties.

These actions by the Federal Goverment and subsequent compliance of financial institutions draw concerns about potential violations of privacy and constitutional rights, leading to calls for transparency and oversight. Additionally, the House Weaponization Subcommittee has uncovered other instances of alleged government abuse, including the FBI labeling of Catholics as a “violent extremist threat” and inquiries into politically motivated prosecutions. This subcommittee’s work is expected to play a significant role in drawing a contrast between Republicans and Democrats as the 2024 election approaches, particularly in relation to individual liberties. These revelations are seen as bolstering claims by former President Donald Trump regarding the “Deep State” and have implications for the ongoing battle of public opinion.

As Christians, How Do We Respond?

We must understand that there is no authority in place that supersedes God, and that He can use evil for His good and His glory. The world will become increasingly evil. Consequently, we will encounter persecution for our faith. In more communist countries, our brothers and sisters in the faith are facing even greater persecution, including death. Despite this, we are called to take joy. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope (Romans 5:3). Even Jesus faced it. As believers, we will too. We should remember the words of Jesus: “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” (Matthew 10:28).
