A Day in My Life: Embracing VIntage Virtues

Welcome to “A Day in My Homemaking, Homesteading, and Homeschooling Life”. As a Mama, Wife, and Christian, my priority is to seek God first while embracing traditional values in this modern world. This article and the accompanying video aim to provide a transparent look into the lifestyle behind this blog, embodying Vintage Virtues.

I acknowledge that many women do much more than I do, and many more do it even better. There is no competition or comparison here, just a desire to fulfill God’s calling with the lot I’ve been given.

Join me as I share snapshots of my morning routine, homeschooling highlights, homemaking insights, homesteading adventures, family time, and reflections. My hope is that this project serves as encouragement to those already doing the tough work and as inspiration to those contemplating changes.

Morning Routine

I start every day with coffee before venturing off into the dark morning to get my middle daughter to school. Then it’s time for Bible Study, Prayer, Journaling, and group discussion with Vintage Virtues Folks going through The Bible Recap New Testament reading plan. By the time I wrap this up, my son and husband come moseying on out for the day. It’s then time to get the more active part of the day going, including breakfast, letting the animals out, and getting everything cleaned up. My husband usually heads out for one of his jobs when my son and I are engaged in our first few homeschool lessons or karate classes.

Homeschooling Highlights

My daughter is on the path to becoming a veterinarian, while my son has been homeschooled since the tail end of kindergarten. We use My Father’s World curriculum, starting with scripture verses, and moving into reading, writing, and Language Arts before our first break. We then tackle math, science, and geography, with art or music on days without karate. We also work on Spanish and take time to review the basics of each country we study. On Wednesdays, we attend a co-op, and we love learning through games. Check out our top 10 picks. We also enjoy making meals with Eat2Explore kits ($10 off Eat2Explore) and trying out new snacks from Universal Yums ($5 off Universal Yums).

Homemaking Insights

As any homemaker or working mom knows, there never seems to be a shortage of tasks, from dishes to laundry, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. Establishing a routine helps me get it all done without overthinking. Making and enjoying family meals together is my favorite. I don’t enjoy the laundry as much. On the day of this article, I found myself needing to catch up on laundry, bathroom cleaning, vacuuming, and some deeper cleaning chores as we have guests coming over this weekend for a Bible study fellowship. You’ll catch the chores in the video at the end of this article.

Homesteading Adventures

With winter here, my raised garden beds are resting, and I’m contemplating plans for the spring garden. We’re also expecting our first grandbaby, so I’m factoring in travel plans with gardening plans. Our egg-laying hens still need daily care, and there are always cooking endeavors, from themed meals to canning up goodies. I’m looking forward to learning how to sew, and our family plans to attend a Primitive Skills Family Festival soon. There always seems to be some homesteading adventure on the horizon.

Reflection and Closing

Each day is a new mercy. I press on to seek God first throughout the day and show my family love in action, despite the inevitable failures. As I look back on the day, I realize that every task I undertake, whether tending to the household, family, land, pets, or blogging, is valuable work. As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy to feel undervalued in today’s world. However, I’ve come to recognize the immense worth in seeking God and caring for my family. In a world where traditional values and families seem to be fading, my hope and prayer are that other moms will feel valued, encouraged, and inspired by this article and the accompanying video. Pursuing God and taking care of your family are the noble work that you’ve been called to. Be a nonconformist. Cultivate a garden, raise some chickens, and devote yourself to serving God and your family. It’s all worthwhile. And don’t forget to rest in Jesus!

Yes, we ate Dinner! It wasn’t part of the video above. Be sure to check it out below. This dinner features hasselback potatoes, tangy chicken tenderloins, and the fixins.
