Witnessing the Sanctity of Life: A 3D/4D Ultrasound Experience at 20 Weeks’ Gestation

I had the pleasure of attending a 3D/4D ultrasound today and it was amazing. At 20 weeks’ gestation, a baby is not yet “viable” outside of the womb but is very much a human being. By 20 weeks, the baby has developed unique fingerprints and can feel pain. I witnessed a baby trying to evade the probing of the ultrasound, a baby that flinched when startled, a baby sucking its hands, and resting on a placenta, a baby kicking its legs and putting up its fists. I even heard the rumbling thunderous sound of a strong heartbeat, telling the story of a life flourishing within the walls of a womb. It was every bit a baby, with every bit of dignity as a human. The undeniable truth is that human life is precious and sacred from the moment of conception. This is a truth as old as time, despite child sacrifice in the Old Testament or Roe V Wade now. A child in the womb has inherit dignity and worth.

After this experience, I’m now convinced that society would greatly benefit from required ultrasounds, especially of the 3D/4D variety and the opportunity to listen to the baby’s heartbeat. It’s eye-opening, enough to prove that what’s inside of the womb is not a mere clump of cells or an invaluable fetus.

Genesis 1:27 – “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Psalm 139:13 – “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Luke 1:41 – “When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
