New Year, New Testament

Starting with the Old. I believe the best way to approach a book is from front to back. The Old Testament provides a solid foundation for the New Testament. If you haven’t read the Old Testament yet, I suggest at least listening to TLC’s Old Testament Recap episode here. Additionally, I have written a series of articles summarizing the Old Testament, beginning here: Navigating Theological Perspectives: Journey Through the Bible in a Year – Part 1 Introduction – Vintage Virtues (vintage-virtues.com).

Ringing in the New. I am excited to embark on the journey of reading through the New Testament with you all! We will be using Tara Leigh Cobbles’ The Bible Recap plan. There are a couple of ways to join:

  1. YouVersion Bible App: The immersive way is going to be through the YouVersion Bible App. You can download it on your smartphone from the app store, free. From there, you can follow the plan electronically and communicate with everyone that’s reading the plan along with this blog. All of the Prep and Recap videos are embedded directly in the app’s reading plan for each day. Feel free to message me to exchange email addresses. I can invite you to the plan directly within the app.
  2. Printable Reading Plan for New Testament: Alternatively, you can print the embedded plan and read through it on your own. You can always come back to this post to comment with insights, questions, and more.
  3. You’ll want to follow The Bible Recap on YouTube to watch each day’s recap videos. The New Testament starts with Video #274.

I’ve also set up a Facebook event on the Vintage Virtue’s Page for an added reminder and spot to connect with others. Join me and feel free to invite friends to this reading plan for added accountability. It’ll only take 3 months to read through the New Testament. We start on January 1, 2024!

Additional Resources. The entire plan is free to download, read along with, and engage in. You DO NOT need to purchase anything to participate in this plan. I do have the weekly discussion guide which will aid us in further exploration of each day’s concepts. But, there are some cool resources available, if you’re interested.

Click here for Amazon’s Tara-Leigh-Cobble store. A couple of resources she recommends in the introduction prep video are the The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible, The Bible Recap Study Guide: Daily Questions to Deepen Your Understanding of the Entire Bible, and The Bible Recap Journal: Your Daily Companion to the Entire Bible.

You can actually pick up all three of these resources in a bundle, on sale at ChristianBook for just $35.98, normally $71.97! That’s 50% off, making it a better deal than Amazon right now.
