It all started with a book about pie, “How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World” by Marjorie Price. The book and it’s recipe were a great way to kick off our homeschool curriculum study centered on Exploring Countries and Cultures.

Next, we read “How to Make Make a Cherry Pie and See the U.S.A” also by Marjorie Price And what did we do? But of course, we made cherry pie. This provided a fun way to review the states that we had focused on in last year’s Adventures in U.S. History and also segued well into this weeks focus on the United States as our first country of exploration.

Then we just made a Pumpkin Pie because… another book twisted my arm. It wasn’t Marjorie Price this time. Actually, the book inspired me with it’s made from scratch variety. But I have cans of pumpkin lined up just for this sort of use. So, I went with a simple but delicious Pumpkin Pie Recipe that is sweetened only by the condensed milk in it.

In between that we also made a world cake! I’m way ahead on fall baking and overextended in calories. In all seriousness though, I enjoy cooking and baking for (and with) my family.
I hope will give these books a chance. I picked up the Apple pie book, free at my local library. But I bought the Cherry pie book at Thrift books when I saw that it wasn’t available at my library. I absolutely love Thrift books. As a homeschool educator, I qualify for their 4 Teachers Promo. So for every 4 books I buy, I get the 5th free. This is available to all teachers and homeschool educators. You just need to upload your DOI. If you use my link, we can both get a free book—> Here’s a FREE book link.
